The Power of a Good Nights Sleep

Let's face it We ALL know how important a good night’s sleep is, so why is it then, that we always put off going to bed until we do that “one last thing”, or “watch until the next commercial”?

We have so much to do each day, but the truth is, we would be SO much more productive if we all got enough sleep!

Wouldn't you agree?

Get this...

Studies have shown that at least 6 hours of sleep are required each night to allow the brain to fully process the mental activity of the previous day.

Consolidating memories happens during this time, so if you are forgetting things, you know why. As a very rough guideline around 7-8 hours of unbroken sleep is a good target to aim for.

If your job and lifestyle do not allow this, then it is time to change this and make it a priority.

It is also no good running on 5 hours in the week and trying to catch up with a lay in at the weekend as the sleep debt you owe must be repaid.

Going several days without proper sleep is certainly manageable - such as living on 1000 calories a day is, or never exercising, and smoking 40 a day.

However, it is far from recommended for ideal for health.

There are a TON of reasons why getting enough sleep is so important. Let's break it down….

1. Did you know that around 80% of your HGH (Human Growth Hormone) is released while you are sleeping?

HGH is a VERY important hormone in maintaining a healthy body weight because it controls metabolism, cell growth and repair, and regulates your lean body mass to fat ratio.

2. Lack of sleep will also cause an increase in a hormone called CORTISOL, which will not only prevent you from LOSING weight, but it can also cause you to GAIN WEIGHT!

Not something any of us want right?

3. When you sleep, your body is repairing and restoring itself. Cutting this time short will not only delay this process, but cause you to be lethargic, irritable, and emotional.

4. Lack of sleep is also associated with impaired memory, slowed speech, lack of ambition, lack of focus and a host of other lovely things.

Because over 40% of us suffer from a chronic lack of sleep, so as of RIGHT NOW I challenge you to get 6-8 hours of UNINTERRUPTED sleep EVERY NIGHT.

Seriously you'll feel all the better for it!!!

Good honest real food, exercise and plenty of sleep is like finding Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket.

You'll have more energy than you know what to do with, instead of snoozing you'll bounce out of bed, unless your partner drags you back in to make use of some of that energy....

You know what i'm saying ****wink, wink***

Before I finish here's a little-known fact....

I'm going to give you 3 Real world examples of sleep deprivation disaster: 1979 nuclear accident at Three Mile Island Exxon Valdez oil spill 1986 nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl

Statistics are also quite scary for the death count of sleep deprivation.

Bottom Line: Get your sleep, minimise stress levels and keep your mind set focused, because if you pile on the stress and don’t sleep, we won’t fix anything without these first two on board.

Top tip: Always spend good money on bedding and comfort. Also invest in black out blinds so that your room is completely dark.

There you have it, the power of a good nights kip explained, if you found it helpful, spread the word and share it with friends, colleagues and family.
